LLTW College Kick-Start and Summer Café Programs Provide for Students, Families
It was a challenging summer, but despite operating in a global pandemic, Lindbergh Lights the Way continued to make a significant difference in the lives of many Lindbergh families.
In May, LLTW helped provide 19 graduating Lindbergh Seniors with everything from notebooks to dorm room bedding through our College Kick-Start program. Many thanks to the supporters who donated more than 700 items to these hard-working seniors who otherwise may not have been able to provide these items for themselves.
The Summer Cafe Program is designed to provide meals to feed vulnerable students throughout the summer months. As you can imagine, the need was greater this summer. We were able to provide whole meal type items such as bread, peanut butter and jelly, noodles with pasta sauce, pancake mix and syrup, along with fresh produce, once a week to 53 families, assisting 105 children. In addition, we provided grocery gift cards to eight families with 17 children who had food allergies or specific dietary needs.
Linda Meyer, Assistant Manager at Schnucks Southfield Center on Lindbergh Blvd., oversaw the purchasing and packing of food items for LLTW this summer. In addition to financial donations from our community members, local churches, and organizations, Feed My People donated small boxes of food. The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Rotary Club also provided over 200 bags of food items. These were added to our deliveries in June and July. Rotary also sponsored a week of food in August, covering the cost of the purchased food at Schnucks as well as provided drivers to help with delivery. Our volunteer drivers were truly amazing this year. They were flexible and patient through the necessary changes this summer, and always a positive force for this program. We thank all of you who contributed to this incredible program.
